No Spend Month: February 2021

I spent way too much money last month and need a reset. What better month to have a no spend month than the month of February? Here are my rules for what I can spend money on and what I can’t spend money on.

Can buy/spend money on

1. Haircut- I only get a haircut once a year, so this is fine

2. Birthdays- I have 3 siblings celebrating their birthdays this month and I plan to give them all money

3. Business expenses

Can’t Buy/Spend Money on

1. Soap- I have too much

2. Skincare Products- Same, I have too much

3. Fast food- I don’t need to waste money on this

4. Anything on Amazon- I have been spending way too much on Amazon through this whole pandemic

25 Things to Do Before Turning 30

When I was 27 or 28 years old, I started making a list of things that I wanted to do before I turned 30 years old. Then along came the pandemic and quarantine and bans on traveling and it affected many things on my list. So I revised my list and chose things that seemed “easy” for me to accomplish. However, even those were difficult for me. Here are both lists and I’ll mark which ones I was able to do and which ones I wasn’t. I turn 30 years old next week, so I don’t think I can accomplish any of these before then. I will be adding a few of these to my 2021 bucket list.

1. Start Selena’s Sweets x

2. Dopey Challenge 2021 x

3. Run a 8 minute mile x

4. Quit my job x

5. Publish two novels on Amazon kindle x

6. Have 1,000 followers on personal Instagram x

7. Have 500 YouTube subscribers x

8. Trip to Las Vegas with Destiny x

9. Weekend in San Francisco with family x

10. Weekend in Nashville with Gioavanna x

11. Pay off 5 credit cards x

12. Run a full marathon under 5 hours x

13. Run a half marathon under 2 hours x

14. Have an emergency Fund of $1,000 x

15. Do 25 pushups non stop x

16. Travel to a new state

17. Get a manicure x

18. Dye my hair x

19. Learn German x

20. Run 30 miles nonstop x

21. Weigh at least 115 pounds x

22. Finish paying mom back x

23. Buy a new phone * I did this!

24. Get a new laptop * also did this

25. Finish paying grandma x

As you can see, I only accomplished two things on this list, buying a new phone and a new laptop. I am hoping to accomplish more in 2021, though I have zero plans of travelling this year.

My Journey to be More Low Waste

Over the past few years, I have slowly started doing things to be more low waste. I realize that I could never be truly zero waste, but I am making a conscious effort to reduce my waste. Here are some thing in 2021 that I plan to do to reduce my waste even more. Check out my list and maybe there’s some things in there that you can do too!

1. Stop using paper towels. Instead use cloth towels or old towels.

2. Stop using plastic sandwich bags. Use silicone reusable bags or sandwich bags that you can find on Etsy.

3. No more single use plastic utensils or straws. There are so many options available now. You can use silicone, bamboo, or silverware that you have from home. It can be weird at first to carry your things around with you when you go out, but eventually, it will feel normal and you will be helping the environment.

4. Wear reusable cloth masks rather than wearing disposable masks. In 2020, we started wearing face masks. I quickly went on Esty to see if I can find sustainable reusable masks. I found some many with cute prints. I have about 7 now and wear a different one every day and wash them all once a week.

Here are some things I have been doing for years!

1. No longer using plastic bags at the market, I take my reusable cloth bags and then wash them when I get home.

2. Not using plastic toothbrushes, instead, I use a biodegradable bamboo toothbrush.

3. Using cloth diapers. I admit that I haven’t used these 100% of the time, mainly because other people who took care of my daughter weren’t fans. But every little bit helps. These can be reused for years and come in many cute prints. The upfront costs might be pricey, but in the end you save money and create less trash.

4. Bar soaps and shampoo bars. These are better for the environment and your wallet. These last longer and create less waste.

5. Cloth pads and period panties. These are much better for the environment because you create less waste. I have been using cloth pads for about 2 years and just recently started using period panties about 6 months. If you are not a fan of pads in general, then I recommend the period panties from Thinx. They have so many different styles. They are comfortable, it feels like you have regular underwear on.

6. Use silicone reusable mat instead of aluminum foil when baking things like cookies

Knott’s Berry Farm Tasting Events 2020

In 2020, most of our travelling plans were cancelled. Many of us were no longer allowed to even visit theme parks. At least that’s the case for us in California, where our theme parks have been closed since Spring 2020. However, Knott’s Berry Farm, a local theme park In Buena Park, California, held multiple food events in 2020. I was lucky enough to have gone to two of them. I enjoyed them and ate so much good food and had fun with my family. I also felt safe thanks to all the safety precautions that was taken at Knott’s Berry Farm. The two I went to were Knott’s Taste of Fall-O-Ween and Knott’s Taste of Merry Farm. Here are some of my favorite foods that I got to taste at each event. (Also included some personal pics.)
