7 Things I Love About Summer

I’m a few weeks late, but summer is here! I admit  that it isn’t my favorite season, because I can’t handle the heat where I live, but there are a few things i like about summer. Here are my top things I love about summer.

1. Going to the beach with my bf and family

Sure the beach is available all year round here in California, but from reason summer time equals beach time here. My favorite beach to visit is Santa Monica but I plan to visit Huntington Beach and Venice Beach this summet.

2. County fairs

I love going to the county fairs. Whether it’s the OC Fair or LA County Fair, I enjoy both. County fairs are known for having crazy good dishes that you can’t try anywhere else, such as fried cheesecake, chocolate covered butter etc. It’s fun for me to try new food each time I go. I also like going on the rides and seeing all the farm animals. I’m a city girl so it isn’t too often I get to see pigs, cows, goats, and all the other animals they have at county fairs.

3. Swimming

I’m not the best swimmer, but I do know the basics. I love being able to swim a few times a week during the summer. It’s so fun and relaxing. Going to the pool near my house can also be a good morning workout for me.

4. Summer dresses

Normally I live in t-shirts and jeans. But during the summer I love wearing summer, flowery dresses. The One time of the year I dress girly. I have a small collection of cute dresses I save just for the summer.

5. Summer fruits

I am generally a healthy person and I love eating fruit as a snack instead of candy. During summer, so many of my favorite fruits are in season. I love eating watermelon, nectarines, strawberries, plums, and peaches. Sometimes these fruits are available at other times in the year but they just don’t taste as good.

6. Travelling

Whether it’s travelling to another city in a road trip with my family or another state with friends, summer is the best time to explore new places. It gives us some change in our everyday routine. Something to look forward to. Something we can talk about for the next few months.

7. Farmer’s Market

Since I love summer fruit, it shouldn’t be a surprised that I like going to farmer’s markets. You can find one in almost any city, usually Saturday mornings. I like walking around seeing what fruits and other goodies they have. Of course I also love the samples!

Boysenberry Festival

One of my favorite things about going to Knott’s Berry Farm is their selection of boysenberry food. During the Boysenberry Festival, they have so many things that are not available year round. I went this year with my family, the third year in a row going there. We tried a lot of interesting new foods. My mom, sister, and I all bought the tasting cards. They are $25 each and with those cards you can get six different boysenberry items.

2017 Tasting Card Items (and grades)

1. Boysenberry BBQ Meatballs B-

2. Boysenberry Fry Bread B+

3. Boysenberry Buffalo Wings A-

4. Boysenberry Ravioli N/A (Didn’t try it

5. Boysenberry Panna Cotta B+

6. Boysenberry Pizza A++

This was by far my favorite thing on the tasting card. It had goat cheese, which sounded weird, but tasted so good. My mom even went back to buy another slice 🙂 Too bad they don’t offer this one year round.

Some other things I got that were not on the tasting card were the boysenberry milkshake, boysenberry pie, and chocolate covered boysenberry cheesecake. Lately I have become somewhat addicted to milkshakes. I knew that I would definitely have to give this one a try. I liked it a lot. It was sweet, but not over the top sweet. The boysenberry pie was good too. I liked the chocolate covered boysenberry pie, my only complaint was that they used dark chocolate. I think it could have been better with milk chocolate.

Meatless March pt2

I did it! I lasted all of March  (31 days) without eating any meat, this included chicken, tuna, seafood, beef, pork, etc.  I honestly did not think I could do it. Some days were easy. Other days were a little bit harder. Going out with my bf and eating dinner at home was a challenge for me. There were so many days that I wanted to give up and eat chicken or tuna, but I just kept telling myself it was only for one month.

I tried some new food during this time. There are many different mock meats to try.  I found out that I like veggie burgers and veggie deli meat. I didn’t like veggie hot dogs however. I also ate more vegetables and whole foods. Since I couldn’t eat meay, i ended up avoiding fast food places most of the time.

I don’t think I will continue being a vegetarian,  it is too difficult for me. However, I will try going meatless once or twice a week.

Meatless March

In the past, i have tried being vegetarian for a week.  I also gave up red meat once for Lent. Both times did not go so well. When I have up red meat for Lent, I ended up becoming anemic. That also happened when I didn’t eat any red meat, poultry or seafood. I made the mistake of not adding enough food with iron and protein.
I will try this one more time.

For the first 30 days of March,I will not eat any red meat, chicken, seafood etc. This time, I need to plan my meals much better. Will experiment cooking different types of meals. I also want to try new food like tofu and veggie pizza.

Goals for 2017

2016 was a great year for me. I learned how to swim, started working out, did well in school, bought my first car, started running etc. I want 2017 to be a great year as well. Here are some of my goals and plans for this hear!

1. Graduate from university.

It has taken me a little bit longer than most people, but the important thing is that I will finally be done this year! I’m going to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in history, my favorite subject. I want to become a writer and a history teacher.

2. Run more and compete in my first 10k, half marathon, and full marathon! I started running in August of last year. My only regret is that I did not start running sooner.

3. Get a new job.

I have been saying for years that I will get a new job and this year, I will finally make that happen! I want to find a job that pays well and I’m happy to be there.

4. Continue playing tennis

I played when I was going to community college and was even in the team. Then I stopped playing for 5 years! Since this semester is my last semester at school, I decided to take tennis as a pe class. It has been so much fun! Once this class is over, I want to continue playing. It’s a great workout and it’s the only sport I’m good at 😂

5. Travel more.

So far, I have plans to go to Florida during spring break for Wrestlemania and San Francisco during summer with my family. I would like to travel to a couple other places either with my bf, friend, or family.
