Meatless March

In the past, i have tried being vegetarian for a week.  I also gave up red meat once for Lent. Both times did not go so well. When I have up red meat for Lent, I ended up becoming anemic. That also happened when I didn’t eat any red meat, poultry or seafood. I made the mistake of not adding enough food with iron and protein.
I will try this one more time.

For the first 30 days of March,I will not eat any red meat, chicken, seafood etc. This time, I need to plan my meals much better. Will experiment cooking different types of meals. I also want to try new food like tofu and veggie pizza.

My first half marathon and 10k

A year ago I couldn’t have imagined running more than 1 mile at a time. This month, I ran my first 10k race (6.2 miles) and my first half marathon (13.1 miles).

My first half marathon (February 5, 2017) was really tough. It took place at the Surf City half marathon in Huntington Beach, California. My official race time was 3 hours and 29 minutes. Much worse than my goal time of 2 hours and 30 minutes. I started training for it at the end of December, but was having problems with my left knee at the end of January, so I didn’t run as much as I could have. I have another half marathon in May and I am hoping to train more and be better prepared for that run. My goal for that one will be 2 hours and 45 minutes.

My first 10k race was Run to Remember LA, (February 12, 2017) which was a week after my half marathon, and it took place in Los Angeles, starting at The Grove and passing through Paramount Pictures studio. This was a much better race for me. My time was 1 hour and 9 minutes. My goal had been 1 hour and 10 minutes.

While many people might not understand why runners like to run so much, running has definitely improved my life. I feel happier, healthier, and stronger.

Goals for 2017

2016 was a great year for me. I learned how to swim, started working out, did well in school, bought my first car, started running etc. I want 2017 to be a great year as well. Here are some of my goals and plans for this hear!

1. Graduate from university.

It has taken me a little bit longer than most people, but the important thing is that I will finally be done this year! I’m going to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in history, my favorite subject. I want to become a writer and a history teacher.

2. Run more and compete in my first 10k, half marathon, and full marathon! I started running in August of last year. My only regret is that I did not start running sooner.

3. Get a new job.

I have been saying for years that I will get a new job and this year, I will finally make that happen! I want to find a job that pays well and I’m happy to be there.

4. Continue playing tennis

I played when I was going to community college and was even in the team. Then I stopped playing for 5 years! Since this semester is my last semester at school, I decided to take tennis as a pe class. It has been so much fun! Once this class is over, I want to continue playing. It’s a great workout and it’s the only sport I’m good at 😂

5. Travel more.

So far, I have plans to go to Florida during spring break for Wrestlemania and San Francisco during summer with my family. I would like to travel to a couple other places either with my bf, friend, or family.

2017 Australian Open

I did not get to watch most of the Australian Open matches this year. However, I did watch both the men’s and women’s finals. I was really happy to see that Serena Williams won over her sister, Venus Williams and that Roger Federer won over Rafael Nadal.

In tennis, most players, especially the top ones, start when they are as young as 4 and 5 years old. They usually become professional around 16/17 years old. In tennis, being 30+ years old is way too old. Many players retire at this age of continue to play, but not at the top level they played when they were much younger. That is not the case with the players in both finals. Both winners are 35 years ago, which is unusual in tennis.

Tennis fans love to see Serena Williams vs Venus Williams because they always have good matches. They seem to bring out the best in each other.

Both Federer and Nadal spent many months of 2016 being injured. People doubted either of these two would make it far in the Australian Open, let alone get to the final. Nadal is only 30 but has been dealing with wrist injuries for many years. Federer is 35 and has been written off by many fans and sports commentators. They say that Federer is the best of all time, but that at his age, he wouldn’t win anymore major titles. He proved them all wrong. I have been a Federer fan ever since I started watching tennis back in 2011 and he is just incredible to watch. His athleticism and skill is greater than many people could even dream to reach.

Next month I will be going to Indian Wells. I hope to see these players there!
