Congratulations Class of 2017 graduates! We did it! On May 20, I graduated from Cal State Los Angeles. For me, graduating is a bittersweet moment. I am happy to be done with tests, essays, finals week stress, but at the same time, I know I will miss the school environment. It might make me sound like a nerd, but I really enjoyed going to school and learning, especially about history, which is what I got my bachelor’s degree in.
I started off my college career by going to a community college first. I graduated from Rio Hondo back in 2012. It took me a while because I had trouble passing a math class and I took a semester off school. It may have taken me a little longer than other people, but I am happy I finally finished and got my degree.
After going to school for 20+ years, it will be very strange to not have to worry about picking out my classes or the first day of school butterflies I always got whether I was in middle school or college.
My biggest regret is working while going to school. I feel like I missed out on so much. I know some people need to work in order to support themselves while going to school, but I feel like it wasn’t the right thing for me. If I hadn’t been working, I would’ve joined more things and participated in more school activities. One thing I did while at Rio Hondo was write for the school newspaper. I loved it. That is definitely something I wish I could have done while at Cal State LA. I would also have tried out for sports while at Cal State LA.
Now that my college career is over, it is time to start looking for a real job. I’m definitely nervous about that. I know that it will not be easy.
