What a crazy week in Wimbledon. Defending champion Roger Federer lost in the second round, Rafael Nadal lost in the first round. Both Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka lost in the second round. Let’s not forget all the players that have withdrawn or retired.
On the other hand, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, and Serena Williams have all been playing really well and are expected to make it to the final. I really wanted Roger Federer to win, but of course the won’t happen. Besides Federer, not a single American man made it to the second week of Wimbledon. I will be rooting for David Ferrer, a Spaniard who may not have won any majors yet, but is an incredibly talented player. Another player I love is Juan Martin del Potro, the Argentian. I’m lucky enough to have seen him play twice in person. The first time at the Farmer’s Classic at UCLA in 2011, then I saw him play at Indian Wells earlier this year. However, if I have to choose between Djovkovic and Murray, I would def prefer to see Murray. After all, how could would it be to see Wimbledon won by a Brit? It’s been over 50 years since that’s happened.
Whatever happens, expect a lot of surprises next week, esp on Monday, when the round of 16 will be played. I can’t wait to watch. I have to wake up early, but it’s so worth it to watch my favorite tennis tournament of the season 🙂
